As high school comes to a close. . .

We want you to be heard. We believe in nurturing your voice. A lot of your time in high school has been spent following directions and preparing for this exact moment. You’ve spent four years studying, taking some classes you loved and others you hope to never see again. You’ve made best friends, joined clubs, competed as an athlete, interned, worked, learned a musical instrument, and matured as a person. it’s time to put all of that into your college application.

But what makes you YOU? What makes you stand out? How does your application grab someone’s attention? Is it your grades? Your test scores? Your extra-curricular activities? We want more than that - we want your story. At every turn, we want you to reveal a piece of yourself - something held close to your heart, surprising, or even antithetical. We want to know about your family and friends. We want to know your experiences and your thoughts. We want to know how a dream of becoming an astronaut when you were five turned into wanting to be a movie director or accountant or dentist.

And colleges want YOU too.

The Village

College Advising Options

Option 1: “The Comprehensive Package”

This package offers direct guidance for those college applicants with more time to commit to the process. Over the course of 40 hours, we will walk you through every aspect of what is necessary and vital, from fine-tuning college selections to pressing send on your final application. We’ll be there for every step. This is our most popular option because it gives you the flexibility to direct your time across the multitude of services included.

Option 2: “The Mini Package”

Whether you are further along in the process or looking for a streamlined version of advising because your college choices are already narrowed down, our Mini Package will provide an efficient version of all of our services. Through 12 hours of direct support, over a maximum of 12 months, we ensure that your college applications are primed and ready and that your goals are achieved. Depending on your grade level, we will offer pointed recommendations based on your timeline.

No matter what you choose, The Village has your full attention.

How we do it

The college essay is paramount! It is the ONLY piece of information that admission officers see that is uniquely attributed to each applicant. The caveat? It’s never one essay. Some schools have two or more essays, plus there are short answer questions that all offer a chance to tell a story. Every application has the potential to have completely different prompts. If you’re applying to 10 schools, that could be 30 different writing samples. Sounds overwhelming? It does to us too, but it doesn’t have to be. We make it easier. We take your story and we help you tell it, mold it, and refine it until it fits. Perfectly.

While the essay is key, it isn’t just the essay. It’s making sure your grades are as good as they can be. It’s double checking that you’re registered for the SAT and finding that last summer internship. It’s applying for scholarships and making sure you’re getting your teacher recommendation forms in early. It’s finding recommenders who are going to have you shine the brightest. That’s too much for one person or one family, and that’s where we come in. We build a village to support you and we make sure you’ve done everything possible to give yourself the best chance of gaining acceptance to where you want to go.

Our goal is, as cliche as it sounds, is making your dreams a reality. We want you to get into your top choice of college, and we want you to ENJOY the process. We think of ourselves as a middle ground between high school and college, of nurturing bring a kid and becoming an adult. We will listen to you, guide you, and hold your hand just enough to take everything you’ve done up until this point and turn it into the best application possible.

Within the two packages that we offer, we will do the utmost to ensure your success. We will show you how to make your profile more competitive. We will work with your family and discuss the best class schedule to round out your academic rigor component. We will teach you how to boost your grades and test scores to maximize every point. We will make sure your extra curriculars are enhancing you and the impression you leave on admissions departments. We will guide you for eventual summer internships and research opportunities to put an exclaimation point on who you are. You will stand out.

Do you need help with your SAT? We also offer test prep courses and personal sessions. Do you need help with your AP English Lit class? We can help you there also. When you sign up to work with us, you are getting all of us. While you will initially be paired with one primary advisor, we all work together in order to have as many eyes on a student as we can. What’s better than one person providing feedback? An entire village. We use this technique because of how effective it can be. We are not the final committee or decision makers so we ask our colleagues to read over your essays as blind readers to mimic the admissions process. When one person works with you there is a natural tendency to get attached to your story. The other readers don’t know you or your family personally. Their discussion and feedback from neutral perspectives provide balance to the polishing portion of the overall academic resume. We believe this is one of the most important steps in finalizing your application.
